As with all drugs there are risks, however with my patients Mounjaro has been well tolerated among both diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Side effects are typically mild and short lasting, with less than 5% of patients requiring dose reduction or discontinuation.

It is cleared in the UK for type 2 diabetes and increasingly being used off label to fight weight gain and already helping countless people meet key health goals. But like any new other weight loss medication, it raises questions and cautions.

Mounjaro is safe for most of us, but it is not a cure all. Despite some users achieving fabulous successes from their starting weight, you may be one of those who encounter side effects ranging from mild digestive complaints to possible health risks. So deciphering how does Mounjaro work for weight loss and what to be concerned about is crucial.

In the UK, Mounjaro is only available on prescription following a careful medical assessment. The MHRA is examining its safety, especially in women of child-bearing potential and their maximum maintenance . Let us take a closer look at what it does, and whether it is effective or even safe to use.

is the brand name for tirzepatide, whose active ingredient is a different type of medication activating two hormones: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) that regulates energy balance in brain and fat cells . These hormones help control blood sugar levels, affect appetite and metabolise excess fat for energy.
